Suojasää ja sumua - Thaw and fog

White clouds covering the sky, snow and fog on the ice reflect the light; feels like walking within a globe of frosted glass. Passers by were wondering how long the artist will be standing there. Not very long, though in the soft thaw I could have stayed longer. The snowdrifts were hard around the juniper, I feared the branches might break if I tried to pull them out from under the snow. And my phone camera was uncooperative, but agreed to function in the end - many thanks to the patient photographer!.

Kevättä ja surua ilmassa - Spring and sorrow in the air

Ursulan suunnasta tuleva polku on yleensä turvallinen pisimpään. Löydät minut katajan luota huomenna kello kolmelta. Näyttely taidetalossa on avoinna viikonloppuisin, samoin kahvila lennättimessä ja pihalla on lumimaja. - Kevät lähestyy huimaa vauhtia, linnut visertävät, mutta taidetalossa on suru. Yksi meistä, Kaisaleena, nukkui pois vakavan sairauden murtamana. Me muut olemme ihmeissämme ja hiljaisia, niinkö haurasta tämä elämä on...

The ice is still strong, but please keep to the path. The path coming from café Ursula is usually the safest one. You will find me by the juniper at three o'clock tomorrow. The exhibition in the art house is open on weekends, as is the cafeteria in the old telegraph and there is a snow hut in the yard.  - Spring is approaching fast, birds are chirping, but in the art house we are mourning. One of us, Kaisaleena, passed away after a serious illnes. The rest of us are perplexed and silent; is life really so brittle...

Vilskettä saaressa - Hustle and bustle on the island

There is plenty of snow and ice, but the sea South of Harakka is already open. And the island is full of people. The exhibition Art and Environmental Chemistry in the arthouse is open during weekends (Sat-Sun 11 am - 4 pm) and there is a temporary cafeteria in the telegraph building. So if watching a juniper feels too esoteric, there are plenty of alternatives on offer! - Today I did not bring tea to the bird shed, since tea was provided elsewhere.  It was actually rather pleasant not to have to worry if somebody was coming or not, when other events took care of visitors. And surprisingly, every Sunday seems to be sunny...

Kurssilaisia ja kolleega - Course participants and a colleague

Joukko valokuvauskurssilaisia kierteli saarella ja harjoitteli valon kuvaamista; ehkä kataja tuli osaksi heidän harjoitelmiaan.

A group of  students of photography were strolling on the island, practicing how to capture light; perhaps the Juniper became a part of their studies.

Tapaamisiin maanantaina? - See you on Monday?

Huomenna sunnuntaina 27.2. et löydä minua katajan viereltä, sillä olen vielä matkoilla. Sen sijaan maanantaina 28.2. klo 15 olet tervetullut teelle katajan luokse. Termos löytyy lintupiilosta!

Tomorrow, Sunday 27th February you will not find me next to the Juniper; I am still traveling. On Monday 28th, however, at 3 pm you are most welcome to have tea by the Juniper. Look for a thermos is in the bird shed!
