Jäniksen vuonna, sunnuntaisin kello 15, alkaen 6. helmikuuta, vietän hetken katajan kanssa, joka sijaitsee Harakan saarella, lähellä ns. lintupiiloa ja kuvaan tuon hetken videolle. Tervetuloa ihmettelemään maiseman muutoksia! / During the year of the rabbit on Sundays at 3 PM, starting on the 6th of February, I will spend a moment with a juniper on the island of Harakka, next to the shed used for bird watching and video film that moment. Lintujen aika - Season of the Birds
Kahdessa viikossa ehtii tapahtua paljon. Suurin osa lumesta on sulanut ja linnut ovat saapuneet. Yksittäisiä hanhipariskuntia käyskentelee lokkien ja tiirojen joukossa. Vielä niitä ei tarvitse varoa, mutta meteli on melkoinen. Merellä kevät on aina myöhässä sisämaahan verrattuna. Itärannalla on vielä isoja jäälauttoja, mutta kalliot ovat paljaana. Maisema on muuttunut entiselleen. Katajakin on päässyt esiin lumen alta.Vain alimmat oksat ovat vielä kiinni jäätyneessä lumessa. Yksi oksista oli murtunut lumen voimasta. Paljon pieniä vihreitä neulasia oli varissut katajan ympärille lumeen. Olisivatko linnut olleet syömässä marjoja, vai mistä moinen neulassade?

You need not watch out for them, yet, but the noice is remarkable. At sea the spring is always later than on the mainland. There are huge ice flakes on the eastern shore, but the rocks are bare. The landscape has returned to normal. The juniper, too, has emerged from the snow. Only the lowest branches are still stuck in the icy snow. One branch was broken due to the force of the ice. Lots of small green needles were shed in the snow around the juniper. Perhaps some birds have been eating the berries, why else such a spray of needles?

Vuorovene kulkee taas - Regular boat traffic has started
Tervetuloa katajan luo huomenna palmusunnuntaina klo 15. Vuorovene laiturista kahvila Ursulan luona lähtee esim. klo 14 ja 14.30 ja pois pääse jo vaikka heti 15.30, jos haluaa. Kumisaappaat eivät ole välttämättömät, mutta suositeltavat.
Welcome to visit the juniper tomorrow on Palm Sunday at 3 pm. The boat from the pier next to café Ursula leaves for instance at 2 pm and 2.30 pm and you can return already with the 3.30 boat, if you wish. Rubber boots are not necessary, though recommended.

Kelirikko, esitys peruttu - Thaw season, performance cancelled
Meri Uunisaaren ja Harakan välissä on avoin, aurinko paistaa, kevät tuntuu kaikessa, vihdoinkin - mutta vielä en pääse veneellä saareen. Jää tukkii laiturin ja vene makaa saaressa kalliolla kumollaan. Ensi sunnuntaina yritän katajan luokse uudestaan. Silloin ilmeisesti myös merenkävijöiden vuorovene kulkee Ursulan laiturista. Pahoittelut peruutuksesta ja tervetuloa paikalle palmusunnuntaina 17.4.
The sea between Uunisaari Island and Harakka Island is open, the sun is shining and the spring is finally here - yet I cannot reach the island by boat. The ice blocks the peer and my boat lies upside down at the shore on the island. Next Sunday I will make a new attempt to visit the juniper. By then then the regular boat traffic from the pier by café Ursula should be in operation. Apologies for the cancellation and welcome next week, on Palm Sunday 17th April.

Viimeisen kerran jalan jään yli? / Last time on foot across the ice?
Sumua ja tihkusadetta. Lumi sulaa vedeksi jään päälle. Polulla jää on vielä 40 cm paksua, mutta näyttää jo pahalta rannalta katsoen. Olin jo jättämäsä väliin koko visiitin, mutta rohkaisin mieleni ja astelin saareen naskalit käsissäni. - Ja kiva oli käydä katajan luona taas.
Fog and drizzle. The snow melts into water over the ice. On the path the ice is still 40 cm thick, but looks already bad from the shore. I was about to withdraw from the visit, but gathered up my courage and walked over to the island with ice awls in my hands. - And sure it was nice to see the juniper again.
